Even in the winter I looked forward to each and every trip I had to make out to this beauty in Sturbridge. A shocking adjustment to be sure! To help ease him back in to New England we’ve decided to seek out CT’s best food and eat it together. To kick things off we tried @ the Corner in Litchfield. We sat at the bar, the service was lovely, ambiance was cozy and the bar was pretty busy for a Tuesday at 5pm. The menu is "fresh and continuously updated American cuisine" and it changes seasonally. We had some really great chicken wings and their famous drunken pear brussells sprouts. The also have a wide selection of craft beers and cocktails. We enjoyed everything we had and plan to return to try even more! If you're in the greater Litchfield area, please eat @ The Corner. Even if you're not, it's worth the trip!
Meet, Brie! When I first met Brie she was looking for a rental. We looked at a few places in Springfield but the market was tough and the rent to value ratio was off. Rents were high, quality of the properties was low. So we extended her search and found "the one" in Enfield! When Brie's lease was up, her landlords decided to sell (it's still a seller's market after all!) so Brie was going to have to move again. This time she would buy so that the next time she had to move it would be because SHE wanted to. We looked again in the greater Springfield area and found a few she liked. The market is still crazy so we lost a few. Then we even found what we thought was "the one" in Enfield and another home buyer found "the one" in the house Brie was renting. The two houses were under contract until both home inspections revealed failing roofs. Both buyers backed out. A problem for everyone. The solution? Brie decides to make an offer on the house she lives in! Landlords and Tenant became Sellers and Buyer. A price and a new roof were negotiated. This ocean front sandcastle consists of a large main structure surrounded by 12 outbuildings. The property is fully walled in and spans hundreds of inches . Incredible water views from the turrets! Just kidding! This is from last summer so it has already sold and washed away.
All jokes aside, this was SUPER fun. Last summer, I was able to take a wonderful vacation at the beach in Rye, NH. I was with my friend and fellow Maverick, Lisa Loomis and one morning we decided we were going to build a sandcastle. Neither one of us had done it in decades. We had no idea how hard and fun it would be. It was sloppy but we were proud. We retired to our chairs to relax and wait for the tide to come in and wash it away. While we waited we were psyched to see people passing by and taking pictures of our sand monstrosity! (Unless they were posted somewhere as #worstsandcastleever or #badsandcastle) I'm now taking sandcastle building tips to prepare for this summer, please share yours! These savvy sellers wanted to take advantage of the winter market still being in their favor. But they were ONLY going to sell if they could hit a specific goal with the net proceeds of their sale. By working backward from their profit goal and closely studying sales comps in town we were able to set a sales price that was on the high side of appropriate in the current Enfield market. These guys had gutted and completely and beautifully remodeled this house in 2019. So we all knew it would sell quickly. But would it sell for what we hoped? Happy to say, yes! That and more! Kudos to a couple who were willing to take a risk and to myself for the same! Creative thinking and marketing and a willingness to try and to let go helped us all succeed here!
