Cathleen's FUNdraiser Congratulations to one of my favorite local authors, Kelly Buffum! I met Kelly at the bookshop, Blue Umbrella Books, where you can find her books for sale, join the writers group she cofounded, Whip City Wordsmiths, or my favorite, attend a Ghost Stories Live event and see Kelly read something spooky she wrote especially for the occasion. With our common interest in books, reading and writing, home shopping with Kelly and her family was more than fun! 69 Mill St.
Westfield, MA 01085 3 bedrooms, 1.5 bathrooms $207,500.00 One of my favorite families closed on their first house! Congratulations to Heather, Mike, Ethan and baby Marin on their gorgeous new home in Cheshire! I first met these guys a little over a year ago when they were looking to move back to CT from the very witchy Salem, MA. We found them a great rental right away but I warned them not to get too comfortable there because "when your lease is up, you're buying a house!". And boy do I love when things work out the way I planned! I'm not trying to steal anyone's thunder! It was Heather and Mike that did all of the hard work and boy did it pay off! Their new house is such a good fit for them and I'm looking forward to visiting them there for years to come!
It’s so hot the bees are bearding!
WHAT ARE THEY DOING? It's called bearding, when the bees seem to form a fuzzy beard on the hive and hang out in a cluster. Almost all of the time this is totally normal, and even a healthy sign. You will see this in strong colonies when the population is at its height and as the bees are storing and ripening honey at a blinding pace. To keep the honey at correct temperature and allow for airflow in the hive, a small to large number of adult bees will hang out in the front, helping the internal temperature to stay cool. You might even see some fanning of their wings, pushing air into the hive on the hottest days. |
