Tonight was the family holiday dinner. Each resident can invite up to three guests and we all have a formal sit-down meal together in the dining room. Staff from all departments pitch in and their dinner service is on par with fine dining! Everyone is so nice and the food is delicious. I forgot to take a picture of my plate before I ate everything on it, but we did get some great shots next to the Christmas tree!
My mom is a long term care resident at Parkway Pavilion and due to her circumstances, getting out together can be tricky on the best of days. We love Parkway for making it possible for us to stay in together during the holidays and really enjoy it. The facility is festively decorated for the residents and they hold several holiday events not only for residents themselves, but also for their guests and some are even open to the general public. Earlier this month, they held a Christmas fair where you could purchase crafts, baked goods and all kinds of holiday themed items. I was able to take my mom to the fair and she picked out her own Christmas cards and a few decorations for her room. We ordered some cheesecake, and sat in the lobby and filled out her Christmas cards together. She did not share her cheesecake with me as promised, but we still had a lot of fun. All the money raised at the fair went to the residents activity fund! Last and best of all is my new favorite picture of my mom. The recreation department must have done photos by the Christmas tree with the residents. I was delighted to find this picture of my mom printed out and pinned to the cork board in her room. Thank you Parkway for all you do for your residents and their families.

In 2010 I spent the summer in rehab at Parkway. At 49 years old, it was an eye opening experience ... a surprisingly good one. The staff truly care about their residents - long term and temporary as well. Staff made me feel like family. The residents felt like family. I've since moved out of state but stop to visit when in town. And staff remember me. And my 90+ year old friend remembers me. Bless the staff and the residents this holiday season and always!!

My grandmother is also a care resident at Parkway Pavilion and we will be celebrating Christmas with her at Parkway. I am really glad that they will let us enjoy the holiday with my beloved grandmother. We are planning to have a dinner with her then give her gifts that she would really like. My father, mother, and I will be coming over to celebrate. Unfortunately, my younger sister will not be able to visit due to her work schedule.
